TRANSPORT AND PARKING ON YOUR VISIT TO WASDALE
WHY GO CAR FREE?
Wasdale’s roads are narrow and passing places are limited. At busy times, the roads become congested causing stress for car drivers and vital delays to emergency services such as the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
Parking is extremely limited throughout the valley, especially along the lake shore and at Wasdale Head. Poor parking blocks the road and causes damage to Wasdale’s unique wildlife and landscape.
PARKING IN THE WASDALE VALLEY
There is limited parking along the lake shore in marked bays. We kindly ask that visitors do not stay for long periods or overnight in these bays, so as many people as possible can enjoy access to the lake. If you would like to stay on the lake shore, tents and camper vans are welcome at Wasdale Lakeside Campsite. Click here for more information.
Parking on the lakeshore outside the marked bay risks damaging the Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Temporary car parks are open at weekends throughout the Summer months. If you travel into Wasdale and you’re unable to park safely and legally, please consider the impact of your parking decisions on other people. We recommend finding a safe place to park outside the valley and using the Wasdale Explorer to enjoy Wasdale.
